The Wildlife Habitat is a partner with The Wet Tropics Management Authority in the goal of rainforest conservation and education. Park Signage imparts information about the biodiversity of The Wet Tropics, its rare and threatened species and the importance of maintaining their habitat. Our accredited Wet Tropics Information Centre provides information and advice to visitors about the activities of the area and the importance of the Wet Tropics region. We provide maps, brochures, information on the local region and tour bookings for visitors to the area. The entire Wet tropics World Heritage area stretches North to Cooktown, and South to Townsville, and the Wildlife Habitat concentrates its information on the local World Heritage areas of Cairns, Port Douglas, Mossman and Daintree. Learn about the mammals, reptiles, freshwater fish, birds and frogs of the World Heritage Area. This area is home to about a third of Australia's 315 mammal species - 13 of these species are found nowhere else in the world. While the Wet Tropics region is home to a quarter of Australia's frogs and more than a third of Australia's freshwater fish, it is also home to nearly half of Australia's birds - that's more than 370 different species within 900,000 hectares.
With an extensive range of gifts, souvenirs, educational material, toys and clothing the Wildlife Habitat’s souvenir and gift shop has one of the best ranges of rainforest products available in the Port Douglas region. |
